The Tell City Police Department was established in 1858. The department’s jurisdiction encompasses over 4.635  square miles and serves a population of approximately 7,800 people. The police department is staffed with 20 full time employees and several part time and reserve employees. The Tell City Police Department is home to a 24 hour central dispatch center which serves the entire county.

The administrative staff includes an Assistant Chief of Police, a Records Coordinator, and a Detective. The police department is directed by Police Chief Derrick Lawalin.

The Tell City Police Department is dedicated to serving the citizens with respect, courtesy, and professionalism. We invite all citizens to take a stand against crime in our community and report any suspicious activity.
